Hello! We have had a wonderful two weeks of looking into our reading lives and thinking about how we can build stronger reading lives. One way we will begin to look at our reading lives is through our reading log. Students began recording their daily reading in their reading logs this week. Beginning next week, students will begin bringing their reading logs home. It is expected that the same reading log travels home and back to school each day. Over time we will begin to compare our school and reading lives! Together we have developed a framework of condition that nurture our reading lives to become stronger over time! Each student has their very own book box where they will each "book shop" in our classroom library, school library and even at home for books that are "just right" for them. Students will carry with them 4 essential reads each week. First, students will have one "micro" read. This is a book that can be finished in less than five minutes. Some types of books may include, comics, recipes, jokes, brochures, pamphlets, or crafts. Our next choice would be a "short" read. These books would be books that can be finished is about 10 minutes. This may include picture books, short nonfiction books, magazines, poetry or news. Last, students will have to "I.R" or independent reading books. These are longer books that would take 20 minutes or longer to read.. It was great to hear students begin to think about their next trip to the school library! Our main goal is that children begin making purposeful book choices, notice other types of books that are available, and begin reading up a storm! Students were so excited to begin shopping today and I cannot wait to see their growth throughout the school year! Happy Reading! -Mrs. Mize-Wilson
Hello Mrs. Mize Wilson! In the past few weeks, I have gotten a little more of a reading maniac. I've read more than ever. I've been pushing myself to read a little more every day. It's a really good idea to keep a reading log. I know exactly what I read, when I read, and how long I read. I know how my reading stamina has been increasing. I'm so glad that I have you as a wonderful reading teacher.

Hi Audrey! Have you read Wonder? If you have not you really should. It's a good book. If you want to,(if you have not read it)you could borrow it when I'm done. I mean, it is my own book. And if you ever want Girl Scout cookies starting in January, I can send you a form for you and your family to fill out and I can get some for you(you have to pay for them). ;p

I'm reading Wonder and I really like it. What is the reading level for it? Are there any books like you recommend? If so, please reply.

Go to Scholastic Book Wizard and search for Wonder. Then click on Book Alike, that will give you some similar books to read.

Just use notebook paper or a small journal. Don't let anything stop you from tracking your thinking. You can also grab some in class!
